Insadong

Start your day in Insadong, known to have the best souvenirs, antique stores, traditional stationery shops, handicraft shops, pottery and porcelain shops in town.

Besides the traditional restaurants, tea houses and cafes, there are about 100 galleries of traditional Korean fine art from paintings to sculptures.

Stroll through the narrow streets, browse local crafts, and sip on traditional Korean tea.

  • Ssamziegil complex – unique souvenirs and art pieces
  • Museum Kimchikan – kimchi museum

🚉 Anguk Station (line 3, exit 6). Go straight 100m and turn left to Insadong-gil. 1 mins walk.

Ikseondong Hanok Village

Next, walk to Ikseondong Hanok Village. This hidden gem features narrow streets filled with traditional Korean houses (hanoks) that now host hip cafes, boutiques, and restaurants. The fusion of old-world charm with modern flair makes it a perfect spot for leisurely exploration and some Instagram-worthy photos.

This 11-kilometer-long stream is particularly beautiful at night when illuminated. It’s also lined with art installations and has plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the view.

The Cheonggyecheon Stream has brought s to our next spot, Gwangjang Market, one of the oldest and largest traditional markets in Seoul. This bustling market is the best place to try local food like mung bean pancakes (bindaetteok), knife-cut noodle soup (kalguksu), and more. Don’t miss the corn dogs and tteokbokki! The vibrant atmosphere and delicious street food make it a must-visit for any food lover. And you can come here for breakfast, lunch or dinner, it’s open from 8:30 am till 11 pm.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza

End your day at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). Designed by the late Zaha Hadid, this futuristic building is an architectural marvel and a major cultural hub. It hosts fashion shows, exhibitions, and events throughout the year. It’s especially stunning at night with its light installations.

Bukchon Hanok Village

Explore Bukchon Hanok Village, home to hundreds of hanoks dating back to the Joseon dynasty. Wander through its picturesque streets, enjoy the panoramic views of Seoul, and step back in time. This village provides a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of Koreans during the Joseon era, and taking pictures in traditional Hanbok makes it all that special! Plus, the view of Seoul from here is amazing!

Gyeongbokgung Palace

Visit Gyeongbokgung Palace for free in your hanbok, the largest and most beautiful of the five grand palaces in Seoul. Don’t miss the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony at 10 AM and 2 PM. The palace grounds are wide, with beautiful architecture and gardens. Explore the National Palace Museum and the National Folk Museum located within the premises.

Jogyesa Temple

Next, head to Jogyesa Temple, the chief temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. The temple’s serene environment, centuries-old trees, and colorful lanterns make it a peaceful retreat in the city. Fun fact: when one lantern is broken they replace it immediately, that’s why they always look so perfect! It is a great place to learn about Korean Buddhist culture and practice.

Jongmyo Shrine

Visit Jongmyo Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site dedicated to the memorial services for the deceased kings and queens of the Joseon dynasty. The shrine’s solemn atmosphere and historical significance make it a fascinating site to explore.

Deoksugung Palace

Stop by Deoksugung Palace, known for its unique blend of Western and Korean architectural styles. The palace is especially beautiful at night when it’s illuminated. Don’t miss the changing of the royal guard ceremony at the main gate. And this place is also free if you wear a hanbok, told you it will be worth it! After this spot, you can return your hanbok because next is night market!

Myeongdong Night Market

End your day at Myeongdong Night Market, this place is full of life filled with street food stalls, shops, and entertainment. Indulge in a variety of street foods like Korean fried chicken, hotteok (sweet pancakes), and more. It’s also a great place for shopping, with countless cosmetic shops and boutiques. My recommendation is to storm the Olive Young for all the skincare you can get, because South Korea is renowned for their amazing skincare.

Changgyeonggung Palace & Secret Garden

Visit the adjacent Changgyeonggung Palace and explore its serene Secret Garden. Originally built as a summer palace, Changgyeonggung offers beautiful gardens and historic buildings. The botanical garden and the ancient trees add to its charm. You can also enter for free in hanbok.

Seoul Tower

End your day with a trip to Seoul Tower for an unobstructed view of the entire city. You can hike up, take a bus, or ride the cable car to the top. Don’t forget to add a love lock to the fence as a memento! The panoramic views from the observation deck are breathtaking, especially at sunset.

Day 4: Gangnam style!

COEX Starfield Library

Start your day at the COEX Starfield Library, one of the most picturesque libraries in the world. With over 50.000 books, this library is an open public space where anyone can come to sit, read, and relax. It’s a perfect spot for book lovers and offers many photo opportunities.

Gangnam Style Hands

Visit the Gangnam Style Hands statue in front of COEX Mall. Step onto the stage beneath the hands, and the song “Gangnam Style” will play, inviting you to perform the iconic dance. It’s a fun and quirky attraction!
