Best Food We Ate at Gwangjang Market

Want to try local food in Seoul? You’ve come to the right place. Gwangjang Market offers a wide selection of South Korean specialties. Navigating through this market can be quite overwhelming with so many choices and vendors calling you to their stalls. To make things easier for you, we’ve prepared a list of the staple foods we tried at Gwangjang Market, complete with stall numbers and prices!

Corn Dog or Korean Dog

It’s a staple! Thickly battered dough with sausage and cheese inside, sprinkled with sugar (yes!) and your choice of condiments. We recommend mustard and ketchup!

Price: 1 piece 3,000 won (~2€)

Kalguksu or Korean Knife-Cut Noodle Soup with Dumplings

This is the most popular stall in Gwangjang Market, easily recognizable by the Netflix sign or the huge line of people. It gained fame after being featured in a Netflix documentary about street food. Despite the popularity, this stall offers the best food in the market. The knife-cut noodles in crab broth are delicious! The dumplings, either filled with pork or kimchi, are the best we’ve had. They are cooked fresh to order, ensuring you get them hot and tasty!

Sticky Rice Cakes or Tteokbokki

Tteokbokki are chewy rice cakes cooked in a red, spicy broth. To be honest, this wasn’t our favorite, but it’s a must-try for spice lovers.

Price: A handful 3,000 won (~2€)

Bindaetteok or Mung Bean Pancakes

Savory pancakes made with ground mung bean batter. Crispy and golden brown on the outside, chewy and nutty on the inside.

Price: 1 huge pancake 5,000 won (~3.4€)

Kimbap

These are bite-sized dried seaweed rolls filled with rice and vegetables. Perfect bite-size snacks, just dip them in spicy sauce.

Price: A handful 3,000 won (~2€)

10 Won Cheese Bread / Pancake

A coin-shaped pancake stuffed with cheese that turns perfectly gooey and stringy when it’s heated — each one takes about 3 to 4 minutes to make, but it’s definitely worth the wait.
